Booker House
The Booker House

Willard Shepherd stands in front of the 'Booker House.' Walter and Muriel Shepherd lived here when they first married. Willard, and his sister, Remona, were born here. Built in the 1800's, the 'Booker House' was once the home of Booker & Cora DeBord. Grover Shepherd bought the two-room house and 13 acres from Booker Debord in 1930.

Obituary of Walter Leonard Shepherd

Walter L. Shepherd, 85, of Street, Maryland died at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, August 8, 1998 at Fallston General Hospital in Fallston, MD. He was the husband of the late Muriel M. Shepherd, who died May 3, 1993

Mr. Shepherd was born February 22, 1913, in Grassy Creek, Ashe County, North Carolina. He was one of eigth children of the late Grover C. and Ethel E. Walker Shepherd.

He moved to Oxford, Pa. from North Carolina in 1941 and had been a resident of Harford County, Maryland Since 1945.

Mr. Shepherd retired in 1970 from the Aberdeen Proving Ground where he had been employed as a carpenter. He was a member of the North Harford Baptist Church joining on November 27, 1960.

He is survived by a son, Willard G. Shepherd of Street; two daughters, Remona S. Fletcher of Street and Sandra R Blevins of Jarrettsville, MD; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two brothers, Ralph F. Shepherd of Mooresville, NC. and Mont M. Shepherd of Grassy Creek, NC.; and two sisters, Myrtle M. Pugh of Millersville, PA and Betty Ruth Williams of Hickory, NC.

Funeral Services were held Tuesday, August 11 at the North Harford Baptist Church, 4008 Old Federal Hill Road, Jarrettsville, MD. Burial was in Bel Air Memorial Gardens. The Harkins Funeral Home, 600 Main Street, Delta, was in charge of arrangements.

Officiating at the service were his pastor, Reverend John W. Manry and the church's youth pastor, Reverend Hugh E. Folds.

Pallbearers were: W Gregory Shepherd, Ronald F. Fletcher, Richard A Fletcher, David R Blevins, Willis H Trostle 111 and William J. Tomlinson, Jr. Mr. Shepherd's Grandsons.

Obituary of Muriel M. Shepherd

Muriel M. Shepherd, 73 of Street Died May 3, 1993 at Greater Baltimore Medical Center. She was born in Crumpler, N.C., daughter of the late Lester William and Martha A. Jones Baldwin.

She and her husband, Walter L. Shepherd would have celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary on July 16.

Mrs. Shepherd had lived in Harford County since 1945 and had been employed as an inspector at the Bendix Corp. in Towson before retiring in 1970. She had been an active member of North Harford Baptist Church in Jarrettsville since 1955.

Obituary of David Ray Blevins

On February 10, 2015, David R. Blevins, 51 of Jarrettsville, Maryland; beloved husband of Lisa Blevins (Nee Weitzel); devoted father of Brandy and Bret Blevins; loving son of Donald & Sandra Blevins; dear brother of Donna Tomlinson and her husband William.

Family and friends will honor David’s life at North Harford Baptist Church,(NHBC), 4008 Old Federal Road, Jarrettsville, MD 21084 on Friday from 6-8 pm, where a funeral service will be celebrated on Saturday at 10:30 am. Obituary of Rush Emory Fletcher

Rush E. Fletcher, age 86 of Street, Maryland went into the arms of his Heavenly Father after a 17 year valiant fight with cancer. He was the son of the late Frank and Gertrude (Winemiller) Fletcher. Rush leaves a brother, Oscar and a sister, Helen; many nephew and nieces and brothers and sisters in Christ. He was preceded in death by brothers Evans, Irvin and Ralph.

Also, surviving to cherish his memory are his wife of 60+ years, Remona, and their children, Ron (Angela), Robin Dawn Kern (Kyle) and Rick (Vanessa); Grandchildren Tyler, Luke (Annie), Corey, Brooke and Daniel. He loved and cared for his family, always wanting to set a good example of Godly living.

Rush grew up on the family farm on Jerrys Road in Street. He attended Mt. Horeb one-room school, Jarrettesville High School and graduated from North Harford High School in 1952. He farmed until drafted into the Army in 1955 where he served two years active duty, three years active reserves and one year inactive reserves.

Following his military service he went to work as a technician for Sears Roebuck and Company where he worked for thirty one years.

Rush and Remona were married in 1959 at North Harford Baptist Church where he worshipped and served until his death. When he could no longer actively participate, he continued to love and pray for the church and church family.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visitation to be held Friday, November 15 from 3-5 and 7-9 pm. On Saturday, November 16 there will be a brief visitation from 10 – 10:50 am followed by a memorial service at 11 am. Visitation and memorial services will be held at North Harford Baptist Church, 4008 Old Federal Hill Road, Jarrettsville. His pastor, Reverend John W. Manry will officiate.

Interment will be in the St. Paul Cemetery, adjacent to St. Paul United Methodist Church, 2036 Telegraph Road, Pylesville. Everyone is invited to join the family at the meal immediately following interment in the fellowship hall at St. Paul Church.
