Joseph Johnson Sheppard Family

Marsha Baney-Lowrey submitted this wonderful photo of her Sheppard ancestors taken about 1900, most likely in Morgan County, IL. This is believed to be descendants of the Joseph Johnson Sheppard family, but only a few of the people have definitly been identified. If you know the identity of any of these people, send an email to author@reddiesrivershepherds.com. Marsha provided the following information with the photo:

AS WRITTEN ON THE BACK OF PICTURE:

Sitting on the ground, in front row, starting from the left, First: CLARENCE ROY SHEPPARD (Grandfather of Marsha Baney-Lowrey) the first-FATHER OF MARJORIE EILEEN (SHEPPARD) BANEY; Second: CLIFFORD CARL SHEPPARD; his older brother; Third: HARDEN SHEPPARD, youngest brother.

Sitting on the chair, in second row, from the right, is JENNIE ELIZABETH (LYNN, LINN) SHEPPARD (dress is fabric with dark bands on arms, bodice, and near hem of dress) She is mother of Clarence, Clifford, Harden, Goldie/Golda, and Gertrude Sheppard.

Standing in back row, IRVIN DUNLAP SHEPPARD, first man from the right of picture, near center, with mustache. He is husband of Jennie Elizabeth (Lynn, Linn) SHEPPARD and father of Clarence, Clifford, Harden, Goldie/Golda, and Gertrude Sheppard.

Standing in back row, from the right, is GERTRUDE SHEPPARD--tall girl, with white bow in her hair. GOLDIE/GOLDA SHEPPARD is standing to her right, with bow in her hair, behind her mother, Jennie Elizabeth.

My grandfather Clarence Roy Sheppard looks to be 10 to 15 years old. If prior to 1916, Joseph Johnson Sheppard was still alive and might be somewhere in the picture-maybe the center? He would have been the oldest, living Sheppard in my direct line. His father, Thornton Sheppard, was deceased.

Cousin Michael Sheppard said Julian Caesar Sheppard (Aug. 20, 1899 - June 26, 1988) may be the "young boy with leg extended sitting on the lawn in front of seated, bearded gentleman with the cane".
