The Will of
George Shepherd

1700 - 1750/1751

George Shepherd was the great, great, great, great grandfather of
Grover & Harrison Shepherd, and the first generation of this Shepherd line.

Will Written: Jan. 10, 1750, Will Probated, Oct. 1, 1751

"In the name of God Amen. I George Shepard of Parrish of Saint George and County of Spotsylvania, being of sound mind and perfect memory, thanks be to God for the same, dc, ale constitute and ordain this my last Will and Testament in manner and form following.

Imprimis: I recommend my soul into the hands of my Great Creator and blessed Redemer my Body to the Earth to be decently buried at the discretion of my Execetors (sic) herafter named and as to what Worldly Estate with which it has pleased God to bless me with after Payment of Just Debts and Funeral Charges, I give and Bequeath as Following viz:

Item: I give and bequeath unto my two sons, George and Robert, the land I now live on to be equally divided between them before acnolaged (sic) and then to be acnowledged (sic) to each of them.

Item: I give and bequeath unto my son George the Mare Colt that Came of the Gray Mare.

Item: I give and bequesth unto my loving wife Elezebeth (sic) the gray Mare.

Item: My will and Desire is, that the two first Colts that the Mares shall bring, shall be my two sons Robbart (sic) and James, and that James to have all my Carpenter Tools.

Item: I give and bequeath unto my son John, one shilling starling.

Item: I give and bequesth unto my Dagter (sic) Ann one shilling starling.

Item: And as to the rest of my Estate, I leave unto my loving wife Elezebeth (sic) duering (sic) her life of Widowhood, and then to be Divided (sic) equally between my fore (sic) children Elizabeth, Robbart (sic), George, and James.

And lastly of this Last Will and Testament. I ordain and appoint my loving (sic) wife Elezebeth (sic) to be whole, and sole Exrx., Revoking and making Void all other Wills heretofore by me Made, and Ratifying and Condirming this to be my Last Will and Testament as afd. In testamony Wherof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal this 10th day of Jan. anno 1750 in the Twenty - third year of his Majestys reigh."

"At a court held for Spotsylvania County on Tuesday October ye first 1751, the Last Will and Testament of George Shepard decd. was provd in Court, and Elizabeth Mary Angelick Shepard-Executrix therein named, haveing made oath to the same, entered into bond, as the law directs, the said will is ordered to be recorded."
