Obituary of Betty Ruth Shepherd Williams

Betty Ruth Shepherd Williams of Hickory, NC passed away at her home around 9 p.m. on June 23, 2008. She was 76.

Betty Ruth was born February 28, 1932 to Grover and Ethel Walker Shepherd. She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Wilburn Shepherd, Walter Shepherd, and Blaine Shepherd; one sister, Edith Shepherd Howard.

Betty Ruth was formerly married to Homer Williams of Statesville, who survives. Survivors include: two sons, Mark Williams and wife Vickey of North Wilkesboro and Neal Williams of the home; two daughters, Susie Williams Clanton of Statesville, and Kay Williams Blackwood and husband James of Conover; two brothers, Ralph Shepherd and wife Joyce of Cumming, GA, and Mont Shepherd of Grassy Creek, NC; one sister, Myrtle Shepherd Pugh of Lancaster, PA; five grandchildren, Amber and Branna Williams of North Wilkesboro, John Clanton of Boone, Elizabeth Blackwood of Conover, and Latelle Williams of the home; several nieces and nephews.

Viewing and visitation will be held 3:30-5:30 p.m., Sunday, June 29th at Nicholson Funeral Home located at 135 Front Street in Statesville, NC. Funeral services will follow with the Rev. Carl Ray Williams officiating. Burial and a grave side service will be held at 2 p.m., Monday, June 30th at New River Baptist Church Cemetery in Grassy Creek, NC conducted by Rev. Reeves Jones. The body will lie in state 30 minutes prior to the service. Betty Ruth will be laid to rest beside her parents. Badger Funeral Home of West Jefferson, NC will be in charge of the burial arrangements. Memorials may be made to Samaritan's Purse in Boone.

Obituary of Felix Homer Williams

Mr. F. Homer Williams, 91, went home to be with our Heavenly Father on Sunday, March 26, 2017 unexpectedly. Born December 6, 1925 in Iredell County, he was the son of the late Felix Larkin and Callie Ader Fletcher Williams. He was a loving and caring father, grandfather, great grandfather and “Papa”. Lifelong dedicated dairy farmer and pillar of the New Hope Community. He was a lifetime member of Taylor Springs Baptist Church. He loved to travel the world to learn and discover new ways to improve the agriculture and farming community. Left to cherish his memory are his children, Mark Felix Williams (Vickey), Janet Sue Clanton, Kay Blackwood and Neil Avery Williams; grandchildren, John Michael Clanton (Robin), Amber Osborne (Ryan), Branna Williams, Latelle Williams (Rachel) and Elizabeth Blackwood; great grandchildren, Chloe Addison Clanton, Eleighana Faith Clanton and Russell Avery Williams along with many friends and loved ones. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two infant sons. The family invites the Church community and friends to a celebration and remembrance of his life to be held 2:00 p.m. Sunday, April 2, 2017 at Taylor Springs Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the Church Cemetery. Mr. Williams will lie in state from 1:00-2:00 p.m. Sunday at the church. Obituary of John Michael Clanton

John Michael “Mike” Clanton, 37, of Statesville, died Monday, November 25, 2019.

Mike was born on October 19, 1982 in Iredell County to Johnnie R. Clanton and Sue Williams Clanton. Mike was a graduate of West Iredell High School, Caldwell Community College and Appalachian State University, attended Zoe Life Bible College and was employed by L. Gordon Iron and Metal as a lead crane operator. Mike was a true outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting, four-wheeling and jet-skiing. He had a passion for music and loved to play his guitar. In high school he played a multitude of sports. Mike had a heart for helping others and never knew a stranger. His dream was to move to the family farm and be a dairy farmer. More than anything else, he loved spending time with his wife and children.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents; Raymond and Reba Clanton, and his maternal grandparents; Homer and Betty Williams.

On April 27, 2013 he married the former Robin Queen who survives, along with his 2 daughters; Chloe Clanton and Eleighana Clanton. Other survivors include his father; Johnnie R. Clanton (Katy) and mother; Sue Williams Clanton, his mother-in-law, Peggy Plyler (Phillip), father-in-law; Roger Queen, 2 stepsisters; Tracey Bell and Nicole Bumgarner, sister-in-law; Kelly Lackey (Michael) and Casie Anderson and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral Services for Mike will be held Tuesday, December 3, 2019 at 3:00 pm at Taylor Springs Baptist Church with Pastor Charles Williams and Pastor Jason Bost officiating. He will lie in state for one hour (from 2:00 to 3:00) prior to the service. Burial will follow in the Taylor Springs Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will visit with friends in the Fellowship Building after the burial.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to State Employees Credit Union to the College Fund for Chloe Clanton and/or Eleighana Clanton, c/o Robin Clanton, Trustee, 767 Eastside Dr., Statesville, NC 28625.
